What a physical sample round costs

Each physical sample round — cut, sew, ship, review, and feed corrections back to the pattern — typically takes days to weeks depending on the factory's queue and shipping distance. A fit issue caught only at the sample stage means the whole round repeats.

What digital sampling catches before cutting

Running an XPBD simulation with a measured fabric and reading the stretch, pressure, and ease heatmaps surfaces the same class of problems a fit sample would reveal — a too-tight armhole, an overly loose waist — before any fabric is cut. It won't catch everything a physical sample would (hand feel, exact drape under real washing, sewing-line tolerances), but it removes the fit issues that are purely about pattern geometry.

Where a physical sample still matters

  • Confirming a factory can actually execute a specific construction detail.
  • Checking fabric behavior after washing, dyeing, or a finish that simulation parameters don't fully model.
  • Final sign-off before bulk cutting — the pre-production sample remains the last physical check regardless of how much fit work was done digitally.
