How to Make a Tech Pack for a Hoodie
A practical walkthrough of building a hoodie tech pack: flats, BOM, graded measurements, and construction notes a factory can quote from.
Start from a finished, fitted design
A tech pack should be built from a design that has already been through fit review, not from a first draft. For a hoodie, that means the hood depth, dropped-shoulder placement, pocket position, and cuff/hem ribbing have already been checked in simulation and, ideally, on a proto sample.
Technical flats
Include front, back, and any detail flats needed to show construction that isn't visible from the main views: inside of the hood, pocket bag, and any topstitch pattern. Flats should be proportionally accurate line drawings, not perspective renders — a factory pattern maker reads them as construction diagrams.

Graded measurement chart
List every measurement point on the point-of-measure chart — chest, body length, sleeve length, hood height, rib height — for the base size, with a tolerance (commonly ±1 cm) and the grade rule used to generate the rest of the run.
Construction and finishing notes
- Seam type per seam (e.g. flatlock on side seams, overlock on set-in sleeve).
- Topstitch width and location.
- Hood construction: single or double layer, drawcord routing.
- Pocket type: kangaroo, welt, patch — with bag depth.
- Wash or finish instructions if the fabric is garment-dyed or requires a specific wash.
